Why you Should Adopt from a Shelter

Have you ever thought of adopting an animal from a shelter? If you have, there are many reasons why you should. First off, you will save a life. Second, animals are good for your health. Finally, shelter animals cost less. I believe people should adopt from shelters.

First of all, one reason you should adopt is you will save a life. Each year, 2.7 million adoptable dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States, and approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide. The amount of euthanized animals could be reduced dramatically if more people adopted instead of buying from breeders. Plus, when you adopt, you will save a life of a loving animal and you will open a space for another animal that might desperately need it. Remember if more people adopted animals, less animals would have to be euthanized each year.

Secondly, animals are good for your health. Not only do animals give you unconditional love, but they have also been shown to be psychologically, emotionally, and physically beneficial for their companions. Petting a cat or dog feels good. It can lower your blood pressure. It also helps you relax and feel less stressed. Overall, your health may improve if you adopt an animal.

Finally, if you don't want to spend a ton of money on a cat or dog, adopting is the thing for you. Sometimes when you adopt, neutering, vaccinations, and sometimes microchipping is included. Also, the adoption fees are really low. You can save $20 on  microchipping. At a Sullivan County animal shelter, it cost $30 for a dog and $10 for a cat. Please consider saving money by adopting from a shelter.

In conclusion, if you adopt, you will save a life, improve your health, and pay less. The longer you wait to adopt, the more animals will lose their lives. You should adopt an animal today!
