As you look over the beautiful lands of Pennsylvania, you see rich, fertile lands which are great for farming and coal mining. With a mild climate, Pennsylvania has lush grass and great farmland with all different sizes of trees. Pennsylvania is made up of seven different land regions which consist of plains, ridges, valleys, plateaus and lowlands. Pennsylvania’s beautiful lands would bring happiness to anyone who visited.

Basic Facts

     Pennsylvania is located in the Northeast part of United States of America. Many states border Pennsylvania. They are New York, Ohio, New Jersey, West Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware. Lake Erie also borders Pennsylvania, stretching 241 miles. Pennsylvania is the 33rd biggest state and covers 46,055 square miles.

     Pennsylvania has temperate continental climate. Pennsylvania's average high  temperature during the year is around seventy-one degrees in July. In January, the average low temperature is twenty-seven degrees. The highest temperature ever recorded in Pennsylvania was 111 degrees and the lowest temperature was -42 degrees. The yearly rainfall is around forty-one inches or 104 centimeters.  With Pennsylvania temperate continental climate Pennsylvania would be a exceptional place to live. Pennsylvania has seven regions such as the Atlantic Coastal Plains, Piedmont, Ridge and Valley Province, New England Province, Appalachian Plateau, Central Lowlands and Blue Ridge. Pennsylvania’s many regions has unique qualities and characteristics.

Atlantic Coastal Plains

The first region is the Atlantic Coastal Plains. This is the smallest region. This region has a large number of small creeks and streams that feed out to the Delaware River. The landscape once had tidal marsh but today has gently rolling hills. This region is between New York and southern Florida. The lands are very fertile and good for farming.

Piedmont Region

The second region is the Piedmont Region. This region has rich farmland. The Susquehanna River cuts through the western part of the Piedmont and a small section of the Blue Ridge Mountains which flows 444 miles. The land is 100-500 feet above sea level. Pennsylvania is located between New Jersey and Alabama at the Southeastern part of the state. The land has rolling plains and low hills.

Ridge and Valley Province

The third region is the Ridge and Valley Province. The landscape has sharp ridges, flat ridges, narrow valleys and rich forests. Below the surface of the region lies billions of tons of coal. This region is located between New York and Alabama.

Blue Ridge

The seventh and final region is the Blue Ridge.  It covers the Southern part of Pennsylvania to Georgia. The region is finger shaped with pretty mountains. The Getty’s National Park is located in this region. An important battle of the Civil War was fought in this region.

Appalachian Plateau

The fifth region is the Appalachian Plateau. Pennsylvania is the largest region out of all seven regions. It covers most of Western and Northern parts of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania also consists of several smaller regions that are all part of the Appalachian Mountain range. Like other regions, this region has a rich amount of coal. The Pocono Mountains are located in this region right up against the corner of Pennsylvania. The mountain range is from 1,200 to 2,300 feet high. This region runs from New York to Alabama.

Central Lowlands

The sixth region is the Central Lowlands. The land slopes down toward the shores of Lake Erie. Pennsylvania has the major fresh water port on the Great Lakes. This region covers from Pennsylvania to New York. The land is flat and was once part of a lake bed. This region has good farmland and vegetables and fruits thrive there, especially grapes.

New England Province

​The fourth region is the New England Province, located in northeastern Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania has steep and rounded hills. Someone can find this region between Pennsylvania and Maine. This region forms rectangular ridges. These ridges cross portions of Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Northamatic Countries.

Conclusion

When one considers Pennsylvania's pleasant climate and beautiful land regions, it is clear that anyone would be lucky to get the chance to visit. Pennsylvania’s geography is made up of seven regions located in the northeast part of the country. As the 33rd largest state it has all types of seasons and varying climates. The state is rich in coal and farming. It also has fresh water and good fishing. The terrain is made up of hills, mountains, and lowlands. If you ever have the chance to visit, I highly suggest it.
