Native American Report

     Have you ever wondered who the Eskimo were?  Well they now live a normal life like us, but they are still trying to keep their past alive.  We can learn about their past by learning about where they live, how they met their basic needs, and their customs.

   

     The Eskimo were a nomadic tribe who moved around a lot. The Eskimo were located at the tip of the earth in the subarctic region. Today, the areas they lived in are called southern Greenland, northern Alaska, northern Canada, and some parts of Russia. The land looked like a land of just ice and snow. It was very cold where they lived. They had a lot oceans near them such as the Arctic, Atlantic, and Pacific Oceans. These oceans provide salmon, seals, walrus, and other fish. Overall, the Eskimo had a very beautiful, cold land.

    The Eskimo were very resourceful in how they met their basic needs. The Eskimo made sod houses and igloos. In the summer they made tents of seal and caribou. The Eskimo ate a lot of different kinds of food. The Eskimo ate fish, bird eggs, and seals. They had to travel year round to find food.  The Eskimo made clothes out of animal skins. In the rainy seasons, they made rainproof clothes out of of seal intestines. Even though they The Eskimo a very harsh environment, they used their resources wisely.

   The Eskimo had very interesting customs and beliefs. The Eskimo loved to tell legends. They told stories about gods or what they believed in. In the spring, they hunted whales. After the whale hunt, they would always have a ceremony to give thanks to the whale’s spirit. They had some very interesting customs. They made carvings made of soapstone such as seals and polar bears. A other custom they had was dance. They also liked to tell stories. Dance is a form of storytelling. Overall, the Eskimo were a very artsy tribe.

   In conclusion, the Eskimo was a very smart tribe when it came to survival. The Eskimo used their resources to survive their harsh environment. The Eskimo were a very interesting tribe who worked hard for their food and shelter. The Eskimo heritage is alive and strong today because the people have maintained their beliefs and culture.
