Hello, my name is St Hedwig. I was born in 1174 in Bavaria. l am the daughter of Count Berthold. During my early life, l married Henry I at the age of twelve. We had seven kids; the first was born
when l was 16. Women were treated poorly then and were expected to just sew and dance, but my husband depended on me to help govern the country. I followed Jesus by caring for the poor. l founded a hospital for lepers. l would invite the homeless and travelers into my home and feed them so they could go on with their journey. In the winter, l would give my shoes rather than see the homeless without some. There are many miracles attributed to me.
One recorded miracle was when l healed a blind nun by holding the symbol of a cross over my head. I died on October 15, 1243 . I became a saint on March 26, 1267. My feast day is October 15. I am the patron saint of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gorlitz.
