Have you ever thought about the Apache tribe? How they survive, their land, and their customs and beliefs? See the Apache tribe has a lot of different and unique ways of life, beliefs, and customs. They are one of the most popular and unique tribes ever.

The Apache tribe moved all across the United States. The Apaches lived in the southwest region of the United States. The Apaches also lived in the states Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arizona, and Colorado. The land regions they lived in were the Basin Range, Great Plains, and Rocky Mountains. The Apaches lived near lots of mountains and plains. The reason for why it is good for them was the mountains and plains around them is because there were a lot of animals around them which makes it better to hunt. Some water sources around them were the Arkansas river, Rio river, Pecos river, and Gilas river. The Arkansas river has lots of high grass around it’s great for staying low. The Gila river has a lot of mountains around it, it surrounds it on three sides. There were also a lot of ponds in the area. The Apaches had a lot of useful resources around them and they should have been very grateful.

The Apache had a lot of basic needs such as food, shelter, and clothes just like we do. The Apaches had a very interesting way of building and designing their houses. The Apaches  had two very different types of houses they are called teepees and wickiups. Teepees are a cone shaped structure that are made birch bark or buffalo skins. They also had holes on the top to let all the smoke out for cooking, making beads, or even to stay warm. The wickiups are a dome shaped structure that had poles of oaks and willows in the ground that were held together by yucca leaves. Then they covered it  with brush or stiff grass with a hole on top.The Apaches ate a lot of meat such as mountain lions, bison, wild turkey, and bear. They also ate many cactuses, berries, and ground vegetables. The Apaches also grew lots of corn for the long harvest that they had. The Apaches made their clothes out of all the resources they had. They made their clothes out of buckskin or bison hide. The Apaches loved to decorate their clothes with beads and knots. The Apaches also used the beads to design bags, pouches, and their clothes. The minerals they used to make the beads are turquoise, amber, ivory, bones, and many more materials. The Apaches loved to make their things from what was around them.

The Apache tribe had very unique type of beliefs and customs. The one belief that is most interesting is The Gila Monster. The Gila monster is an reptile that is very venomous. So they believed that with one breath from the lizard could kill a grown man! Another one that is common is they thought that their ancestors were trees and rocks. They believed that animals, plants, and rocks had souls. A custom that was very interesting about the Apaches is the owl’s hoot. See, the Apaches were afraid of owls and their hoots. Whenever they heard the sound of the owl they think it’s a ghost speaking in their language. Another custom about them is that they liked to carry their teepees and wickiups around as they moved. The Apaches have very interesting customs and beliefs.

In all the Apaches were a very impressive, smart, and social tribe. The Apaches had a lot of cool customs and beliefs. They had a pretty easy environment to live in they had everything they need like food, land, and shelter. They were a very fascinating tribe to study. Their customs and beliefs are very interesting to look at. The Apaches are still alive today there are 57,000 in the 2000 which is amazing. They are trying to change the world by making schools, businesses, and government. They are a very strong tribe. They wowed me on how they work together, stick together, and fight together.
