Holes Essay
Holes a eight million sold copies worldwide and three award winning book has been put into a movie with a lot of differences. Some of those differences are Kate not in the boat with Sam, Trout Walker not tying Kissin Kate Barlow’s feet together, and Dr. Pendanski instead of Mr. These thing catch a viewer’s eyes and ears and cause great disappointment especially if you read the book. These are some of the things that catched some people’s eyes.
First of all, Kate wasn’t there on the boat with Sam. In the movie she was in the field beside the lake crying “Noooo.” I think the movie wanted it to be more dramatic for the viewers to bring up the tension of Sam being killed. This wouldn’t make sense in the book. In the book she and Sam was in the boat together until Trout Walker’s boat pulled up and he shot Sam. When this happened I was not happy. I was so confused because they changed a huge part in the movie and I didn’t feel the same.
Next, right before Kissin Kate Barlow died Trout Walker didn’t wrap her feet with rope and lead them to the treasure. Instead they she just grabbed a yellow spotted lizard and squeezed it until it bit her. When she died in the book she was walking and a yellow spotted lizard came up and bit he on the foot. Before Trout Walker and his wife came she started to hear, feel, and see Sam. Right before she died in the book she started laughing and died a slow and painful death. This was a disappointment to a lot of viewers who had read a book.
Finally, in the start of the movie Mr. Pendanski is now Dr. Pendanski. They changed Mr. to Dr. because they wanted him to sound smarter than what he really is. At the end of the story the Warden and Mr. Sir whose name is also (Mary) figures out that he was Dr. Pendanski instead Mr. they started to freak out. So, the Warden started yelling “I didn’t know you were Dr. Pendanski” until she figure out that Mr. Sir’s real name is Mary. I think they should of kept it as Mr.Pendanski instead of Dr. Pendanski.
In total, the book and the movie are very different. I personally liked the book better because of the detail. Kate not in the boat, Trout not tying her feet, and Dr.Pendanski are the details that they try to pull on the addince. Read the book and watch the movie to find the difference between the two. In all, Holes is a great book and everyone needs to read it.
