D.A.R.E Essay

Did you know that more than one out of five students reports being bullied?                       About 5.3 million people in the United States have a fear of public speaking. Only 10% of the surveyed teenagers had said no when they were faced with peer pressure. All the stuff I just said is what we will be talking about and this is all stuff I learned In D.A.R.E.

Through the D.A.R.E. program, I learned that bullying is probably one of the worst things in schools all over the world. Bullying can affect people in many ways such as hurting yourself, sleeping problems, anxiety, depression and even suicide. Bullies will prey on people that are different from them and usually prey on people with disabilities, people of color and people who are LGBTQ+, or you could just get bullied being an innocent bystander. There are also lots of forms of bullying such as social media bullying, physical bullying and mental bullying.  Media bullying (also known as cyber bullying) is very common among school students and almost everyone has experienced some sort of cyberbullying in their school life. Cyber bullying is where someone is bullied online and or made fun of online. Physical bullying is where someone bullies you though hurting you, punching you, kicking you etc. And mental bullying is where someone bullies you through comments like “your stupid” or “your dumb” etc. Just remember that if you’re thinking about bullying someone, DON'T because you don't know what that stuff can lead to.

Another thing I learned in Dare is Public speaking. About 5.3 million people in the United States have a fear of public speaking. Public speaking is really hard for a lot of

people, but I'm an extrovert and I love public speaking.  When  public speaking, some things that help are to imagine the people you are speaking to are not even there or picking one person in the audience and pretending that you're talking just to just them. The most nervous I have ever been about public speaking was when I had to pick a Saint and write an essay and dress up and read my essay in front of the whole school. However, I underestimated myself, and I think I did a good job. So, next time don't be afraid of public speaking

Peer pressure is very hard to resistBut Dare can help you with that. If you don't know what peer pressure is, it's when someone or a group of people pressure you into taking drugs, alcohol, and even into bullying people. Fortunately, there are many ways for you to avoid falling into peer pressure. If you are hanging out with your under aged friends and one of them has alcohol or cigarettes and all your friend start pressuring you to also drink or smoke and you say no, a good way for them to stop is to say, “NO, and if you keep telling me to, I will call tell your parents.” That will probably get them to stop. Then there's social media pressure. It's the same thing with peer pressure but online. My advice is whatever device that's its happening on just delete the whole thing, or if you can't do that then just ignore it and dont read it. DO NOT under any circumstances use peer pressure to make someone do something they don’t want to or feel uncomfortable with.

Through the D.A.R.E. program, I have learned how to deal with bullying, public speaking, and peer pressure. I’ve learned that bullying can lead to all types of things that are not good. Public speaking is not bad as long as you don't underestimate yourself.  And peer pressure can lead to time in jail or other bad things. Please listen to me and what I have to say because people of my generation are helping in what needs to be fixed.

I, Noah Baldwin Fernandez, promise that I will never take drugs, drink alcohol when I’m young, and never fall under the pressure of peer pressure.
