Eating Lobster

I slowly drug my exhausted legs away from our car toward the wafting scent of food, spices, and variety of oils. I saw the cleanness of Canada along with bright green grass and towering buildings above us. I walked in along with my family, the place bustling like it was an ordinary night.

“Mom, what are we eating?” I slowly started to turn my head to look at her, getting my little sister out of the car.

“We are eating seafood,” Mom replied, sitting my little sister in the stroller.

People were talking all around us as we started walking to the counter. We followed the waiter to our table and sat down. I felt the cold cushioned chair against my sore legs. The breezy wind had a warm feel to it. I chatted with my sister as my parents were talking to each other. The waiter came out with freshly caught lobster and king crab and asked if we wanted a picture. I told my mom I wanted to take a picture and so I picked up the giant lobster as my fingers fought and pushed against the cold, inedible shell and took a picture.

“Guess what!” I looked at Liz who was looking at her phone.

“What?”

She looked up and started talking about Snapchat.

I started to listen but slowly departed, starting to think about the places we’ve been so far.

We talked about how my oldest sister didn’t come. My sister was annoyed about something and started becoming mad. This really annoyed me because she was getting to eat food and she was fifteen and acting like a four year old.

As we sat and waited for the food, we looked around and saw the proportions at the other tables,  all looking the same with giant, monstrous mountains of food towering above them. As we waited almost fifteen minutes, one of the towering assortments collapsed. It made all of the people start turning their heads and every table that didn’t get their food including us started freaking out because they didn’t want it to be their food. We obviously didn’t want to wait another half an hour.

“Is that our food?” I quickly turned my head to my dad, eager for an answer.

“No, I don’t think it is.”

The ocean of relief rushed in as it washed over my soul and body cooling it down. Once again, the hunger started punching in as it pierced my stomach. It was a battle fought between my stomach and my persistence of waiting and surely I definitely knew my stomach was winning. I finally saw the waiter walking toward us, hope brimming over me as a delightful grin spread across my face. As the waiter was walking, my eyes stalked him like a lion in the tall grasses ready to pounce at its prey at the right time.

Once more, my dreams were demolished as he taunted me by walking forward again but then turning to the table beside us. My stomach roared as the spiritual lion did, getting ferocious and a bit frustrated.

“When is our food coming?” I continued to stalk the waiter, glaring at him as he walked away, then once more turned to my dad.

“Right now actually.”

The moment I heard that, gratitude drove out of me, exploding rays of praise as God answered my prayer.

The scent and fragrance of all different spices and ways of cooking embedded the air as I saw all the pleasant food. I started to prepare for the battle field with my family against the enemy with wet wipes and a lot of water at the ready.

“Why do we have to do this?” I stared straight across from Liz, piercing her with my eyes as she was ruining my moment as well as trying to make her shut up and shove her face with food.

As I was staring like superman into her soul, my hunger got the best of me, so I decided to armor up instead. I felt the cool wet wipes on my hands, cleaning them as well as relaxing them a little. Everyone dug in except for Leia because she had to get Mom’s help to get the shell off.

Once we were all set, everyone started to attack the giant heaps. I went all in with my big appetite ready to devour every part of my prey. I ate my first piece with savoring it as the flavors whirled around my tongue like a tsunami of flavors crashing down my throat as the soft pillowy houses of meat came all swarming down at once. The light, soft meat had light and bold flavors with smoky ones as well; it was like a rainbow on my tongue. The crispy fried lobster was fresh and juicy as the river of juice flowed down my tongue. The cushiony meat paired perfectly with the crisp fried garlic, the fat and flavors getting a hold of my tastebuds.

Overwhelmed by the flavors, water was a good refresher, its nice cold, cutting the fat as it slid down my parched throat. As the embedded air came rushing in, my soul completely changed as all the flavors made more sense as I ate. As the sun started to curtail into the buildings, it engraved it’s rays of light into them. As I felt the joyous feeling of summer with I realized that it would be my last summer as a fourth grader. I thought about my friends and the places they went and I realized I was exceedingly happy and grateful for a trip like this. We packed up our food and we started going to the car as I walked, seeing the fireworks up in the sky of Canada.
