D.A.R.E. ESSAY

“That which does not kill us makes us stronger.” These words of self belief came from Friedrich Nietzsch. This shows that whatever does not kill us indeed makes us stronger, but whatever does kill us makes us weaker. The same goes for drugs and alcohol. It may kill us, and it indeed makes us weaker which is why we should abandon drugs and alcohol. D.A.R.E. taught me how to avoid drugs and alcohol, it also taught me how to deal with peer pressure by public speaking.

What are drugs someone might ask? Drugs can be dangerous when used in the wrong way. Some drugs that are extremely dangerous and popular are Marijuana and Heroin. Lots of people use drugs at different High schoolers use them, some mid aged adults use them as well, and even some elderly people, too. If drugs are used when someone is in High School or Middle School, those drugs then can be dangerous as well because Middle Schoolers' and High Schoolers' minds and bodies are still growing. Therefore if they use drugs they might grow in the wrong way. If mid aged people use them then they will be way weaker than they’re supposed to be in the future, and if elderly use them then I believe they’re going to die fairly quickly because their bodies are already weak and they’re just weakening it even more. Once people start drugs, little by little their bodies and minds long for the drugs through a process called addiction. Remember the most important part is if one person uses drugs in the wrong way, their life is at risk.

Another thing I learned in D.A.R.E. is public speaking. I don’t know about the viewers reading this but this was my second time public speaking. As a class in D.A.R.E, our D.A.R.E. officer  told us about his public speaking about a chair, yes a chair, the lesson was about peer pressure. Public speaking is basically what the name defines it as, speaking in public. How most people want to brush it off and have less pressure is to laugh so it makes others laugh that enlightens the mood. Our  D.A.R.E. Officer told us to make the person speaking nervous and give them peer pressure. How we gave them peer pressure is trying not to laugh and to sternly stare at them and whatever they were doing or saying that maybe weird but we did it anyway. This is coming from a 5th grader and it is very true we had a great time with this and it was something that we could do in D.A.R.E. because we don’t have to just sit around.

Some people think D.A.R.E is useless and unimportant but I think D.A.R.E. is like a new breath of life. If one thinks about it then it is; Someone’s life could be saved from D.A.R.E. and billions of others. As a 5th grader, I think it is especially important because as all 5th graders know we are about to go to middle school, and  it is a time for us to mature a little and grow up. We don’t know what crazy things we might do in the future, but D.A.R.E. might help us and guide us. Before D.A.R.E. was a thing elders maybe didn’t have it and maybe when they were younger they didn’t understand the damage of drugs and alcohol and other things,  as much as we do now. In D.A.R.E.,  we can learn about what so many people put themselves through just to feel “happy.” We have the willpower to say no to drugs and tobacco just like the motto for D.A.R.E. Just say one word. No! The future of someone’s life in addiction is gone and over, one has protected themselves.

I have known for all my life to avoid drugs and alcohol but D.A.R.E has shown me why. Our D.A.R.E. Officer Lieutenant Whitt is basically a kid by heart just like our teacher. With Lieutenant Whitt teaching us the true meaning of how important it is to live one's life, not in the shadows of depression, drugs and alcohol but in the light of life and breath. It is important to live with every step of the way because someone is with us. Take all the chances you get, and who knows one might be here today but someone might not be here tomorrow. Why don’t some of us try today just try today, tomorrow, and everyday no matter what life you live in, just try. Now one might be wondering Who is this someone? Well his name is Jesus, and he truly will be here with us every step of the way
