     Have you ever wanted to learn about the way of the Navajo? The
Navajo were a great tribe to learn about. They lived very different lives than we do today which can be seen through where they lived, how they met their needs, and their customs.

     They are one of the largest tribes in america.They lived in the southwest and western regions. Those states today are utah new mexico arizona colorado.they had climates  such as hot/day cold/night. There land was full of canyons mesas, deserts. There water was scarce. They had the colorado river and the little Colorado River.
     Their shelter was small and made of dirt and wigwam shaped.the winter hogan was
designed for keeping warm air in. summer hogan was for letting cool air in. the
Navajo designed their doors in the east because they believe this brings good
fortune. They eat corn, fish roots plants. the tribal men gather the foods in
big hunts. Their clothing was  long robelike warm and made of deerskin.

Their belief was in the earth mother. They praise the holy ones.

     Some costumes are the workmen made leather household items and the

navajo are known for there woven rugs and blankets. They first learned to weave cotton from Pueblo people. In the old days navajo divided arts into classes the men made
jewelry. Women made pots and blankets. Silversmith made jewelry and silverware.
The men also made tools for fixing things.

     The Navajo believe in taking to the animal spirits they killed. They believed in two different classes of human’s earth people. There culture and traditions were veered toward family, with ceremonies and rituals.the most important ceremonies were for illness. Most
common rituals were called sandpainting. They made a painting in smooth bed  of
sand. And chanted for sick.

      There were many famous people of Navajo descent some examples are

Jacoby Ellsbury a Major League Baseball Player, who is Navajo on his mother's side.

Jacoby played for the Boston Red Socks and the New York Yankees. Cory Witherill the first
full-blooded Native American in Nascar and last but not least Dr. Fred Begay, a
nuclear physicist and a Korean War Veteran. Begay’s mother and father were both
Navajo healers.this was about the navajo americans. They were fun to learn about.they are known for a lot of things .
