Georgia Geography

Did you know that two - thirds of Georgia is covered with forests? Georgia has nearly 25 million acres of forests , which is more than any other southern state. Georgia is a humid subtropical climate with warm summers and cool winters that are occasionally cold. There are lots of mountains but there are also plateaus, many different valleys, Rolling hills, some flat dry land, and sandstone cliffs. With all of these things it makes up beautiful Georgia. You would definitely want to go to a beautiful place like this.

Basic Facts

        Georgia is located in the southeast region of the United States.  Georgia has five bordering states. Tennessee and North Carolina are located north of Georgia. Alabama  is located to the west, Florida is located to the south, and South Carolina is located to the east of Georgia. Georgia covers 59,425 square miles. Georgia is the second largest state in the southeastern part of the United States, but it is the 24th largest state compared to all the states. 

        The average highest temperature is 80 degrees fahrenheit and 26 degrees celsius. The average low temperature is 43 degrees fahrenheit and 6 degrees celsius. The highest temperature ever recorded is 122 degrees fahrenheit and 45 degrees celsius at greenville on  august 20, 1983. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -17 degrees fahrenheit and -27 degrees celsius at CCC camp F - 16 on january 27, 1940. The average yearly rainfall is 15 inches 127 centimeters. The climate in Georgia is usually warm in the summer, cool and occasionally cold in the winter, there are usually 40 - 50 inches of rainfall on Georgia each year, in summer and fall there are tropical storms, an occasional hurricane will batter up on the coast, and it is humid subtropical.

Mountain region

The mountain region has many mountains. You can probably tell by its name. These are some of the mountains in this region. blue ridge mountains, sand mountain, lookout mountain, and pigeon mountain. Those are some of the mountains. The tallest mountains are in the blue ridge mountains. Also the highest point is in the blue ridge mountains. The highest point is Brasstown bald mountain. It is 4,784 feet tall. It has one plateau which is the Appalachian plateau. There are also many fertile valleys which include the ridge and valley region which is in the mountain region. Then there are just a few other things like sandstone cliffs and isolated valleys. That is some information about the mountain region.

Piedmont Plateau  

The piedmont plateau is located south from the mountain region. Rolling hills cover about 30 percent of the region. There is also something called the piedmont fall that falls down to the lower coastal plain region. The piedmont plateau is named after a region at the foot of the alps mountain system in Italy. The plateau slopes down from 1,500 feet above sea level. That is some information about the piedmont plateau.

 

Coastal Plain

The coastal plain covers the entire southern half of Georgia. It is Georgia ‘s largest land region. It is mostly flat with sandy soil. It also covers about 60 percent of Georgia. This region has marshes, swamps, and other wetlands. It consists of two different sections the upper coastal plain and the lower coastal plain. This is some information about the coastal plain region.

Conclusion

In a beautiful place like Georgia anyone would take a vacation and if you were to choose a time go in summer it's a beautiful warm place to stay at. But Georgia also has places you can go to not just forests but places. Georgia has many state parks, and  two national forests which are Chattahoochee and Oconee. Those are just three places to visit but there are lots more. Georgia is always a beautiful place to visit.
