                                                 The Seminole Indians

     Once Chattahoochee, a member of the Seminole Native American tribe said, “I never wish to tread upon my land unless I am free.” The Seminoles tribe was a very strong, determined tribe . One can learn about the Seminoles by looking at find where they lived , how they survive  , and their beliefs and customs

     The land of the seminoles is very hot and humid. The Seminoles lived in southeast Florida.They lived out on the coastal plain. The lived in the Everglades where There were no trees, but lots of swamps and lakes. There was a dense sawgrass marsh. One of their water sources was the three sides of Florida's ocean. There was also shallow water basin. Although ,they were surrounded by water and swamps they still found a way to survive  

     The Seminoles really  out their artistic skills when meeting basic needs There shelter was called a chickees. Chickees stood three feet off the ground and had slanted thatch roofs placing them on the open side of the ground.They separated the middle of the shelter to cook. The Seminoles grew corn, beans, squash, grapes, figs, plums , and other things, such as tobacco. They hunted bear, fish, and deer. The men wore tassels feathers and hats. The women wore earrings, scarves, and headbands. The also  wore Spanish cotton garnishes,buckskins, and leather moccasins and leggings. The Seminoles were very innovative in how they used what they had and made it into something so creative.

     The Seminoles had many beliefs and customs. The Seminoles thought everything that had a spirit must be respected. They asked the tree for forgiveness before they cut it down and they pardon them self when they kill fish. The Seminoles never took more than they needed. They caught their food in a weird way. They did not hunt with guns but with longbows. The tip was made of iron. One of the Seminoles custom was the green corn dance. Once a year they would all come together and have the green corn dance. They believed it was a symbol of life and as the children grew the corn rippend.The Seminoles enjoyed their way of life and respected all life.

     In conclusion, the Seminole was a very strong and determined tribe. Their strength and determination can be seen through where they lived, how they met their basic needs, and their beliefs and cultures. Hopefully, the tribe will carry on their tradition and grow into something bigger and remember the culture and traditions past done by their ancestors. And hopefully, the seminoles might just inspire everyone .
