Colorado Geography

        The land of Colorado is an amazing site full of mountains with snow blowing in your face, plateaus with breathtaking sites, plains with grass covering you while you lay down, and basins where you run on every hill. These mesmerizing land features of Colorado are where one can go to have fun. Colorado’s climate is hard to know and prepare for what the weather is going to be like. The land regions are special such as the Rocky Mountains where the continental divide runs through the mountain range. Other land regions include the Colorado Plateau and the Great Plains. Colorado is a state that has many beautiful regions that God’s put his grace on.

            The state of Colorado is located in the western region of the United States. Colorado is 104,094 square miles in size, ranking it the eighth largest state in the United States. The states that border Colorado are Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas, and Nebraska.  If one stands on the western corner of Colorado, that person will be in four states at once. These bordering states are Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. Colorado is one of the biggest states in the United States with many bordering states.

        Colorado's varied terrains can have a different climate in one region then  another. The average temperatures in July is seventy-four degrees Fahrenheit and in January, the average is twenty-eight degrees Fahrenheit.  The highest and lowest temperatures in the state are 118 degrees Fahrenheit being the highest and negative sixty degrees Fahrenheit being the lowest. The state’s yearly rainfall, or precipitation, is fifteen inches.Colorado’s climate is known as highland continental, which  means cold and dry. The state has winters, relatively warm summer, and springs are blustery and can change. Occasionally Colorado has very hot summers.

Colorado platue

     One can find four land regions in this state the first one is the colorado plateau, the second one is The Rocky Mountain, the third one is the Intermontane Basin, The last one is the Great Plains. The first land region is the Colorado Plateau which covers one fifth of the state. This land region can be found along the western border. One will find high hills, plateaus, deep valley, and mesas in the Colorado Plateau. In the valley, farmers raise crops. In the grasses land of the measas, one will see summer cattle and sheep grazing.

Rocky mountain

      Next on the list of land regions is the Rocky Mountains. Covering two fifths of the state, the Rocky Mountains are found in the middle of Colorado. They call this the roof of North America because it has fifty-five mountain peaks that reach up to 14,000 feet. The average height above sea level is 6,800 feet for these peaks.  This region in the state is the tallest Rocky Mountain chain. The continental divide runs through the Rocky Mountains and determines if rivers will go to the Pacific Ocean or the Atlantic Ocean.

        Another land region in Colorado is the Intermontane Basin. This is the smallest region in Colorado and it is north of the plateau. The region has rolling hills and wedged in  sagebrush plateau in mountain ranges. One could find it on the north west end of Colorado. There will be herds of sheep grazing on the plateau or in the forest covered hills. .

Great plains

       Last on the listed of the land regions is the Great Plains. The Great Plains covers two fifths of Colorado.  This is the vast interior of North America in Colorado. This region slopes upwards east to west. People thought that this area was too

dry for farming with mainly flat land where wild grases send their roots deep.

Conclusion

     When one considers the varied climate and the rugged land regions of Colorado, it is clear that God’s grace was on the creation of this magnificent state. Tourists go on the mountains and ski or snowboard. They could also go to the four corners, the highest elevation, or even the plateaus for views. If you just look around everywhere in Colorado, you can easily see why God created this place. If you open your mind, you can understand why Albert Einstein said, “look deeper into the nature, and then you will understand better.”
