Louisiana Geography

BAM! As the gator hunter tagged a large figity gator in the foot. This is what happens in the louisiana bayou in gator season. The muddy swampy bayou is the iconic spot for gator hunting in louisiana. With hurricane season to lot’s of rain, Louisiana is very cautious about weather. But the humid subtropical climate brings hot summers and warm and cold winters. The pelican state has many geographical regions which are the Mississippi Avenue Plain, West Gulf Plain, and the Hast Gulf Plain. Overall  Louisiana is very interesting every other piece of land.

Basic Facts

Louisiana is located southeast of the United States. The surrounding states are Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas. Mississippi is on the eastern border of louisiana. Texas is west of Louisiana, and Arkansas is on the northern border. Louisiana is 51,840 square miles long making it the 31st largest state. 

 

The climate of Louisiana is humid subtropical. This climate covers all of louisiana.  The rainfall precipitation yearly is 62 inches or 157 centimeters. The average temperature yearly is 53° - 83°. In l0uisiana the highest and lowest temperatures are -16° and 114°. Louisiana is often hit by hurricanes. The most deadly hurricane to hit Louisiana was hurricane katrina. Floods often threatened louisiana. Hurricane Katrina's rebuild cost $108 billion.

East Gulf Coastal Plain

The first land region or the smallest region is the East Gulf Coastal Plain. The East Gulf Coastal Plain is like the toe of Louisiana.  This land region has the Mississippi river right at the western region of the plain. It has hardwood trees. Ti holds the Tunisia Hills. The land is very wet and there are no major cities in this area.

West Gulf Coastal Pain

The second region is the West Gulf Coastal Plain. The west gulf plain is the second largest region in Louisiana. This part of Louisiana is wet and has lots of hills. Some major  cities in the west gulf plain are Alexandria, and Shreveport. This land region has the state's highest point Duskrill Mountain. It also rises up from the delta. It contains the only national forest. Most of the forests are in this region.

 

Mississippi Alluvial Plain

The last region is the Mississippi Alluvial Plain. This covers almost all of louisiana. There are 6 rivers running through it. Including the Mississippi River which runs from the gulf to arkansas. The famous bayous and swamps are made from running dirt into the water. An alluvial  plain is land created by dirt and sediment. There is a large delta called the mississippi delta. Some major cities are BATON ROUGE, New Orleans, and Morgan City.

Conclusion

When one considers the HOT summers  and warm winters, it is clear that Louisiana is a great place to live.  “Live, travel, adventure bless” and don’t be sorry.
