                                                      At the Beach

I woke up to the bright blinding light. I slowly opened my weary eyes and sat up. I looked around the room, confused. Then, I realized! It was my birthday! Quickly, I got up out of my bed, put on my slippers, and ran into the small seating area. There sat my parents watching a show, laying on the couch. “Happy Birthday!” They shouted loudly. I hugged them, excited for the day ahead.

I changed into my swimsuit and grabbed a towel. “To the beach!” I yelled happily. We ran out the door and walked. We were in Hilton Head Island, my favorite beach. I ran past the small playground, onto the hot wooden balcony, and kicked off my flip flops. I stepped onto the sand. It was hot!  It felt like I was a burnt pancake! I ran to a clear spot, and we set our stuff down. My mom set the umbrella and chairs up, and they sat. I smelled the salty water and saw the kids playing volleyball. The loud sound of the crashing waves delighted me. Will and I ran into the cool, refreshing ocean. What a relief! It felt amazing on our hot skin! I was so happy.

I grabbed my boogie board and held it in the glimmering wavy water. I had to get out to put another coat of sunscreen on. As my mom sprayed it onto my body, it felt cold. I jumped and laughed, not wanting the chilling spray to hit my body. She rubbed the icky waxy sunscreen stick on my hot face. As I turned around, I saw Will in the water, waving at me! Behind him, a big blue wave was coming. I laughed as it hit him and pushed him down. He popped up, surprised. I giggled much more. I jumped in, and swam back to him.

We left the beach, and I scrubbed the wet sand off of my body. Tired, I walked back to the place we were staying. Walking into the small kitchen, I grabbed an icy coke. I sat down and drank it while watching a movie. Then, I texted my friend a bit too. My dad came in and said we we’re going to the grill at the beach. I got some shorts and a T-shirt on and headed there. Will and I played a game, while waiting. My mom was making a cake at home!

We arrived and ate. My parents said we we’re going to the pool for a late swim, so I gobbled down the delicious steak and then the cake. As I swallowed, the warm steak made me feel delightful. I changed to my swimsuit.

I jumped into the pool, and Will and I did a contest. Who can hold their breath the longest? Of course, Will. Just because he’s older than me. The chlorine smell was  strong, and I got out to dive in. I dived in, and the water glided past me. I felt like I was flying! Then, the pool closed. I came home, and took a shower. I changed into my pajamas, and jumped in bed. I thought about the amazing day and fell asleep.
