South Carolina

You decide to take a long walk on the beach. You feel the warm sand on your feet. The sound of the waves makes you feel calm. You hear the children laughing and playing happily. The cool, refreshing air blows onto your hot skin. One would find this desirable atmosphere at the beautiful beaches in South Carolina.  From the cooler, dry mountains to the hot, humid beaches, South Carolina offers a variety of landscapes within three distinct land regions. This remarkable state offers year-round beauty for all to see.

Basic Facts

     South Carolina is located in the southeast region of the United States. There are two states that border South Carolina.  North Carolina can be found directly north, while Georgia is located to the west of the state. South Carolina covers 32,020 square miles, making it the 40th in size compared to the other states.   

    South Carolina has humid, hot summers and mild winters. South Carolina’s average high temperature is 84° F. The average low temperature is 48° F. In Columbia, the highest temperature ever recorded was 113° F, on June 29th, 2012. The lowest was -19° F on January 21, 1985.  The average rainfall is around forty-seven inches per year. Winters are mild, and summers are very hot and sunny. Summer can occasionally bring flash flooding.

The Piedmont

The Blue Ridge Mountain region  is very big. The Blue Ridge Mountain covers the northwest part of South Carolina. The Blue Ridge Mountain region  is very big. The name, Blue Ridge Mountain, comes from the beautiful blue tone the forests have.  Mount Mitchell rises 6,684 feet above sea level. The Blue Ridge Mountain region is an amazing sight to see. , and runs through Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and Northern Georgia. Atlantic Coastal Plain

South Carolina is divided into three distinct land regions. The Atlantic Coastal Plain region is the largest of these regions.  This unique, lowland region takes up two-thirds of South Carolina and is mostly covered in sand and clay. The Atlantic Coastal Plain is flattened close to sea level in elevation. The two main sections are the inner and outer part. The inner part to the west has slow moving rivers and sandy hills. The outer part has swamps and marshes. The Atlantic Coastal Plain has sandy areas and a lot of forests.

Conclusion

 South Carolina is a beautiful state with three distinct regions.  You can visit mountain tops to sandy beaches and everything in between.  South Carolina is one of my favorite places to visit!
